At St Cuthbert’s, we are proud to mark Vocations Week as part of the wider celebration of Vocations Sunday in the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

Vocations Sunday is a time dedicated to prayer and reflection on God’s call to each person, particularly to the priesthood, religious life, and service within the Church. It is an important moment in the Church’s year, encouraging all of us to think more deeply about our purpose and how we can support and nurture vocations for the future life and mission of the Church.

Throughout the week, a range of activities took place across school to help the boys engage with this theme. Each day began with dedicated slides during morning prayer, prompting reflection on vocation and calling. Assemblies further explored what it means to live a life of purpose, while our Raising Aspirations lessons focused on vocation in a practical and meaningful way, encouraging pupils to consider how their own gifts could be used in service of others.

We were also delighted to welcome special visitors into school. Fr Paul Jenkins joined us on Wednesday afternoon to speak with pupils about his vocation to the priesthood and religious life, offering a personal and inspiring insight. Later in the week, Emmet O’Leary a diocesan seminarian spent the day in school, speaking to pupils about his journey and answering thoughtful questions about discerning a vocation.

Vocations Week was a valuable opportunity for our boys to reflect on who they are called to be and how they can make a difference in the world. As a school community, we continue to encourage all pupils to think deeply about their future — not just in terms of careers, but in terms of calling, service and becoming men of competence, conscience, compassion and commitment.
