On Monday, 10th November, our Fortis Dux award recipients enjoyed an unforgettable day on Holy Island, celebrating their hard work, character, and commitment. The group began their visit with a walk across the stunning landscape of Lindisfarne before making their way to St Cuthbert’s Island, the quiet and peaceful spot once used by St Cuthbert for prayer and reflection.
The boys explored the shoreline, learned about the island’s rich Christian history, and spent time observing the incredible wildlife that makes Holy Island so unique. A highlight of the day was seal spotting, with many students amazed to see groups of seals resting along the sands.
One pupil said, “I’ve never been anywhere like it. Seeing the seals was amazing, and it was really peaceful on St Cuthbert’s Island.” Another added, “I loved being outdoors and learning about St Cuthbert. It felt special to stand where he once stood.”
Staff who accompanied the trip praised the boys for their curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm throughout the day. The visit not only celebrated their achievement but also offered them a chance to reflect, explore, and enjoy the natural beauty that inspired St Cuthbert himself.
The school is incredibly proud of our Fortis Dux boys, who continue to demonstrate the values of commitment, compassion, competence, and conscience both inside and outside the classroom.
