We were delighted to welcome interns from the Youth Ministry Trust alongside representatives from the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, including Catherine Craig, Director of Education, for a day designed to deepen their understanding of Catholic education, the Catholic curriculum, and the daily life of a faith-filled school community.
Our visitors enjoyed a tour of the school before observing three Year 11 lessons, where they witnessed our strong academic focus and high expectations in action. They then met two panels of pupils, including members of the School Council, recently confirmed boys, and our two Sixth Form representatives on the Diocesan Youth Council. The students spoke with confidence about their learning, their experience of Catholic life, and the aspirations they hold for their futures. One Year 11 pupil said, “You can really feel the community here. Teachers push us, but they also care about us as people. That’s what makes the difference.” A Sixth Form student reflected, “Being part of the Diocesan Youth Council has helped me understand that faith isn’t separate from school—it’s part of our leadership and who we’re becoming.”
The visitors also met with the Head of RE to explore the KS3 curriculum and shared lunch with sixth formers in the newly refurbished common room. The day concluded prayerfully as our Year 9 Faith in Action group, who are working toward their CYMFED award, led a Celebration of the Word in the Chapel, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
One YMT intern summed up the experience by saying, “It was inspiring to see students take such confident ownership of their faith.”
The school extends its thanks to Catherine Craig, the diocesan team, and the Youth Ministry Trust for their visit, which strengthened our shared mission to accompany young people in faith, learning, and service.
