Year 9 Football Team Crowned City Cup and League Champions
Our Year 9 football team have enjoyed a remarkable season, securing both the City Cup and league title in dramatic fashion.
In the City Cup Final, the team showed incredible resilience, coming from 1–0 down to claim a 2–1 victory. Goals from Oliver and Joseph turned the game around, sealing a well-deserved win and confirming them as Year 9 City Cup Champions.
Their league campaign proved just as thrilling. In a decisive match against Gosforth Academy, the title was secured in unforgettable style. With the game finely balanced, Oliver stepped up in the final moments to score a stunning free kick, clinching the league and capping off an outstanding season.
Mr Wright praised the squad’s efforts:
“This group of players has been incredibly determined all season. Their success is down to their hard work, resilience and the way they have performed together as a team.”
Mr Colligan also highlighted the team’s preparation and performance:
“The lads have been excellent in the lead-up to these games and absolutely fantastic in the final. They thoroughly deserve their success.”
The team’s season is not over yet, as they now look ahead to another major opportunity, competing in the TSSSA Cup Final in May.
