We are delighted to work closely with our partner primary schools to ensure every boy feels supported, confident, and excited as he takes his next big step into secondary school life. Whether you are a pupil, parent, or teacher, this is your space to learn how we make the transition journey smooth, friendly, and full of opportunity.
Moving from Year 6 into Year 7

We work closely with all our feeder primary schools throughout Year 5 and Year 6 so that boys begin to feel at home even before they arrive.
Our transition programme includes a range of visits and activities that help pupils get to know the school, meet staff, and start forming friendships with boys who will become their new classmates.
Academic transition matters greatly to us. Our curriculum leaders and teachers spend time with Year 6 teachers to understand each pupil’s abilities, strengths, and needs. By the time boys join us in September, we already have a clear picture of their learning, so we can build on what they know and ensure a confident start to Key Stage 3.
Moving up to secondary school is a big step. It is exciting, but it can also feel a little daunting for pupils, parents, and carers alike.
At St Cuthbert’s, we do everything we can to make this transition smooth, friendly, and positive.
But at St Cuthbert’s, we care about more than academic information. We want to know your son as a person. We are a school committed to the formation of the whole person—to forming great men. That is why, in June, staff and pupils from Year 9 or 10 visit each of our feeder schools. Hearing from older boys about life at St Cuthbert’s helps make the move feel less mysterious and far more exciting.

When your son arrives in September, he will also be supported by a team of Sixth Form buddies who help new pupils settle in, find his way around, and feel part of the St Cuthbert’s family from day one. Our goal is simple: to help every boy begin his St Cuthbert’s journey with confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging.
