As part of our commitment to guiding every pupil towards success, Mr Turner, Head of Sixth Form and Careers, is currently meeting individually with all Year 11 pupils. These conversations give each pupil the chance to explore their future options and to consider the outstanding opportunities available within St Cuthbert’s Sixth Form.
At St Cuthbert’s we see education as a seven-year journey, from Year 7 to Year 13, where boys grow into fine young men of faith, character, and ambition. The decision to continue into Sixth Form is a natural next step on that journey, allowing students to remain part of a community that knows them well and is committed to their success.
Our Sixth Form is among the highest performing in the region, offering a wide range of academic and vocational courses so that there is a pathway to suit every learner. In addition, our strong partnership with Sacred Heart High School expands subject choice even further, ensuring that all students can pursue the subjects that best match their ambitions.
Life at St Cuthbert’s Sixth Form goes far beyond the classroom. Every Wednesday afternoon, students take part in an extensive enrichment programme similar to a university experience, joining clubs and societies that reflect their interests. Current options include our Elite Football Academy, Newcastle Eagles Basketball Programme, as well as cooking, Mandarin, politics, and many more.
Our facilities are second to none: a dedicated Sixth Form Café and Common Room complete with pool table, vending machines, and a fussball table, alongside quiet study rooms that support focused learning. This balance of independence, support, and community spirit makes St Cuthbert’s a unique place to learn.
The success of our Sixth Form is reflected in our outcomes — 100% of students move on to university, employment, or further training. As our Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI) report highlighted, St Cuthbert’s Sixth Form truly embodies a “brotherhood,” with students looking out for one another and leading initiatives that make a real difference.
This term, the Sixth Form are launching their first major charitable events, beginning with a five-period football match between Year 12 and Year 13 on Wednesday 8th October, ahead of their Movember campaign and Advent collection for the homelessness charity Crisis. These projects reflect the values of service, community, and leadership that are at the heart of Sixth Form life.
Mr Turner’s meetings with Year 11 pupils are the first step in helping every boy see how they can thrive as part of this community. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of Sixth Formers at St Cuthbert’s, completing their seven-year journey with us.
