At St Cuthbert’s, we are proud to celebrate the success of our Year 10 Work Experience Programme, which saw nearly every boy in the year group take part in a placement with a wide variety of local and national employers.
Before stepping into the world of work, the boys completed a comprehensive preparation booklet to help them get the most from their experience. This included researching their chosen company, understanding the expectations of the workplace, and completing important health and safety training. The preparation phase helped build confidence and ensure that pupils approached their placement with maturity and responsibility.
Throughout the week, our students made a fantastic impression across a range of industries and organisations, including:
NUFC Foundation, Bellway, Bowmer & Kirkland, Department for Work and Pensions, Sir Robert McAlpine, JMICON, Nissan, SETA, Enigma, and Teleperformance.
Mr Turner, Head of Sixth Form, said: “It was inspiring to see our pupils engaging so positively in their placements. The feedback from employers has been outstanding. Many boys exceeded expectations — they have represented the school and themselves with pride.”
At the end of the fortnight, pupils took part in reflection and review sessions in the Sixth Form Common Room. They shared their experiences, reflected on their learning, and considered how the skills they gained could shape their next steps.
Mrs Garay, Progression Coach, added: “The work experience programme gives our pupils a valuable insight into the world beyond school. Many have returned with a clearer sense of direction and greater belief in what they can achieve.”
The programme is an integral part of our wider careers curriculum, which is designed to support pupils in developing the knowledge, confidence and ambition to succeed in life beyond St Cuthbert’s.
Mr Swindells, Deputy Head, commented: “At St Cuthbert’s, we are committed to providing experiences that broaden horizons. Work experience is a key part of that — and it’s a joy to see the boys flourish in real-world settings. The praise they’ve received from employers has been richly deserved.”
We are proud of the way our pupils embraced the challenge and opportunity of the week, and we are grateful to the employers and organisations who welcomed them so warmly. Their support plays a vital role in helping shape the future pathways of our young men.
