Three impressive pupils from St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School were honoured at the Newcastle Schools Achievement Awards, held at the Banqueting Suite in the Civic Centre on Tuesday 24th June. Nominated by their Year Teams, Freddie Hall (Year 7), Nicholas Walton (Year 8), and Shaheer Rizwan (Year 9) were recognised for their remarkable personal development, character, and contribution to school life.
Freddie shows remarkable resilience, determination, and kindness in everything he does. He approaches school with a consistently positive and hardworking attitude. Freddie has been selected for the Paralympic Pathway in football, a reflection of both his talent and dedication. He also plays a valued role in the Catholic life of the school as an altar server, serving with humility and faith. Freddie is a true role model, whose strength and purpose shine through both his achievements and his everyday actions.
Nicholas' journey is a powerful example of personal growth. Nicholas found the start of secondary-school life difficult, yet through resilience, courage, and quiet determination, he has grown into a bright, friendly, and much-loved member of our school community. His kind heart, quick wit, and calm positivity are now felt across the school, and the progress he has made is nothing short of extraordinary. Nicholas’s transformation is a reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance and the right support.
Shaheer has shown consistent excellence across the curriculum. He is meeting or exceeding his target grades in most subjects and has been awarded all A's and B's for attitude, behaviour, and engagement. With over 300 house points and no demerits, Shaheer sets an excellent example for others. His teachers frequently praise his focus, respectful attitude, enthusiastic participation, and high-quality homework. He works hard in every lesson and contributes positively to the school community each day.
Mr Collinson, Assistant Head at St Cuthbert’s, commented, “Each of these pupils represents the very best of St Cuthbert’s — not just in what they’ve achieved, but in their character, kindness, and determination. Their stories are genuinely inspiring, and it’s a privilege to see them thrive.”
We are incredibly proud of Freddie, Nicholas, and Shaheer for their well-deserved recognition. They embody the values of St Cuthbert’s and offer great hope for the future.
