— St Teresa of Ávila

At St Cuthbert’s, we recognise that the simple, everyday aspects of school life play an important role in supporting the well-being and development of our boys. Food, care, and safe journeys to and from school are all part of creating a community in which pupils feel valued, supported, and ready to learn. We are committed to providing nutritious, balanced, and enjoyable school meals that contribute to pupils’ health, concentration, and overall wellbeing, while taking account of dietary, medical, and religious needs wherever possible. Through our catering provision, we encourage healthy choices and positive attitudes towards food.

We also place great importance on ensuring that pupils travel to and from school safely and responsibly. Whether travelling on foot, by bicycle, on public transport, or via school transport, we promote behaviour that reflects our shared values of respect, responsibility, and care for others.

This section of the website provides key information about school meals, free school meals, and travel arrangements, supporting families in helping each school day begin and end well.

Meals: We believe in offering a broad range of healthy meals in our re-designed dining area. Hot and cold food and drinks are available before school, during morning break and at lunchtimes. The Dining Room operates a cashless system and works on a biometric fingerprint reader. This avoids the need for pupils to have amounts of money each day. The price of a standard two-course meal deal is £3.00.

Water Bottles:  We encourage all pupils to have water bottles in school. We provide filtered water to keep them hydrated throughout the school day.

Free school meals will save families well over £350 a year per child. If you think you might qualify please apply on-line via the link below. If you are unsure whether or not you are eligible it is our strong advice that you apply.

Walking and Cycling: Wherever possible pupils and students are advised to walk or cycle into school. There is plenty of secure, covered space for bikes to be securely stored during the school day. When cycling to school boys should ensure that their bike is in good working order and that they wear a cycling helmet.

Public Transport: St Cuthbert’s is easily accessible by public transport with Stagecoach in Newcastle services 10, 11, 39 and 40 providing a frequent service from the City Centre and the West End of the City. You should alight at the stop for the West Road Crematorium, walk up the West Road and then take the first right along Gretna Road, keep walking and we are on the left hand side further up the road.

Years 7-11: Pupils in Tyne and Wear are entitled to reduced travel costs on the production of an U-16 card or a Teen Ticket, visit the NEXUS for more information.

Sixth Form Students: Help is available for transport costs via a special travel card. This is available from NEXUS.

School Transport: Nexus provides dedicated scholars’ buses to support boys travelling safely and reliably to and from school. These services help reduce journey times, ease pressure on public transport, and ensure pupils can attend school ready to learn.
