Year Groups

We place great importance on looking after ‘the individual’ at every stage of their time at St Cuthbert’s; doing so in a proactive, open and collaborative way that encourages staff, parents and pupils to work together.

A key strand of our pastoral care comes through our Year system, which provides a supportive community.

The Year gives the boys a sense of identity as well as a major source of support, which comes from the Head of Year or Assistant Head of Year and Form Tutor. As such, every member of the community is cared for.

The School's culture and communication systems ensure that staff share information about pupils, to ensure a personal approach. Pastoral management staff - including the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and Assistant Head Safeguarding & Welfare - meet on a weekly basis with Heads of Year to ensure that pupils remain firmly at the centre of our pastoral work. The latticework of pastoral care is finely meshed to prevent any pupil from falling through.

Our pupil voice surveys ensure we understand our pupils' experiences, whilst also consulting the School Council and using pupil forums to ensure that the genuine pupil voice, helps to shape our pastoral provision and decision making. We also benefit from multi-agency working and the provision of a part-time school counsellor from The Road Centre.
