Welcome to St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School – an outstanding Catholic Boys' school in the North East of England.
I hope you find this website is useful in understanding how our school is distinctive.
Our mission is to build on our school's history and heritage since 1881 of academic excellence and pastoral care in becoming the most innovative creative school in the top 20% for attainment and progress in the country.
We hold a very strong and traditional view of education. We are proud to be a comprehensive school and do well by all students - our academic record speaks for itself.
We teach our young men in such a way that they can become happy, considerate, responsible adults - this matters as much to me as good grades - we develop future citizens. There are no limits for any boy and we strive hard to remove any potential barriers.
We aim to preserve the strength of single sex education to deliver outstanding outcomes and aspirations with shared opportunities to lead and participate in our Catholic community locally, regionally and nationally.
St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School sees itself as custodian of the best kept secret of single sex to promote confidence and curiosity to learn about self, others and the world, demonstrating faith in action.
Faith is transforming and our school transforms lives offering young men opportunities for service, prayer and pilgrimage. We prepare our young men to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world with confidence; be motivated to investigate and explore ideas in a critical constructive way; participate in their community with strong moral compass and integrity.
There are no quick fixes in education. What makes us successful is simply hard work and rigorous pursuit of the highest possible standards. Boys will thrive here who want to achieve and are eager to take the opportunities we offer.
We are recognised for our outstanding outcomes by Ofsted and Catholic schools Inspection. We are a National Teaching School and National Support School and our most recent award - World Class School.
